Barbecue (or BBQ) is a versatile term that can refer to several things: a cooking method, the device used for cooking, the food itself, and a social event. The original word comes from the Taino people of the Caribbean, where barbacoa referred to a wooden framework used for slow-cooking and preserving meat over a fire.
